Part one in our three part series, “Centennial Celebration of the Opening of the First Subway”. Raymond R. Berger (ERA #2298), who has served as chairman, vice chairman, and director of the New York Division, showed a photographic essay depicting changes in the transit system during the 1960s and 1970s, a period of particular importance to transit enthusiasts. We saw a period of decline, then the retirement of the first generation of car equipment, the introduction of the second generation of cars, and finally a look at the third generation fleet. Many of these slides had never been seen by any other transit enthusiasts.
