Coney Island Complex Tour

Sunday, June 13, 2004

The NY Division of the ERA is pleased to announce a visit to NYC Transit’s Coney Island Complex in Brooklyn on Sunday, June 13, 2004. The complex, known as the Coney Island Complex, is one of the largest transportation facilities in North America. The complex first opened in 1926 and occupies 75 acres of land.

All attendees will meet at the main entrance to the complex which is located on Shell Road (McDonald Avenue), a short distance south of its intersection with Avenue X and 86th Street. You must be at that entrance no later than 11:00 AM that morning. The entrance can be reached by taking the F train to the Avenue X Station. Upon leaving the station, walk south (same direction as F trains headed towards Coney Island) from Avenue X along the west side of Shell Road until you reach the entrance, which will be on your right. Those driving will have to find on-street parking. B1 and B4 buses also serve this area. In anticipation of the possible need for security clearance for all attendees, please have a photo ID in your possession.

It is expected that the visit and tour will last approximately two to three hours. As the tour will take place during lunch time, we suggest you plan to eat on your own just prior to arriving at the complex or be prepared to wait until the tour is over for lunch on your own. We do suggest that, following the tour, you may want to take the F train over to Stillwell Avenue, as it is expected that F and Q train service will begin to the rebuilt Stillwell Avenue station or or about May 23.
