Tramways and More in Italy

The board of directors of the Electric Railroaders’ Association, Inc. (ERA) express their sincere gratitude for your loyal support of this organization over the years through subscriptions and participation in our New York meetings, as well as our sponsored local, national and international trips and conventions.

The actions we have taken over the last two years to control recurring expenses and reinforce the long-term financial stability of the ERA have been effective. Our meeting venue at the iconic Roosevelt Hotel across from Grand Central has proven to be an excellent choice. It remains affordable for the club, and the increased transit access it allows has resulted in monthly meetings being more popular than ever. The move of ERA’s library to the Shore Line Trolley Museum has been completed. Shore Line is currently cataloging and placing the books on shelves and the collection should be available to the public sometime in 2017. This has resulted in greatly reduced storage and office costs, as well. Finally, actions continue to be taken to improve the quality of the digital Bulletin, and at this point over 50% of our members elect to receive The Bulletin PDFs.

The combination of the above financial progress along with generous bequests have allowed us to keep all mailed dues the same as in previous years — this is an accomplishment for everyone in the face of the continued increases in both shipping and printing costs that are out of our control. However, we continue to emphasize the benefits of receiving The Bulletin digitally and have further reduced membership rates for those who request The Bulletin digitally from $50 to $40. The digital Bulletin contains high-quality, full-color photos and is suitable for home printing. Digital subscribers receive their PDFs before print subscribers, and you will still receive our spectacular annual Headlights magazine issues by mail. This discount returns us to a dues rate that is the lowest it has been in years. To promote a vibrant future for the club, we have also implemented a new discounted rate for youth members that has already generated attention from railfans who have become members.
