The board of directors of the Electric Railroaders’ Association, Inc. (ERA) express their sincere gratitude for your loyal support of this organization over the years through subscriptions and participation in our New York meetings, as well as our sponsored local, national and international trips and conventions.
The actions we have taken over the last two years to control recurring expenses and reinforce the long term financial stability of the ERA have been effective. Our meeting venue at the iconic Roosevelt Hotel across from Grand Central Terminal has proven to be an excellent choice. It remains affordable for the club, and the increased transit access has resulted in monthly meetings being more popular than ever. The move of ERA’s library to the Shore Line Trolley Museum has been completed. Shore Line is currently cataloging and placing the books on shelves and the collection should be available to the public later this year. This has resulted in greatly reduced storage and office costs for the ERA, as well. Finally, our efforts at publicizing the benefits of receiving the digital edition of The Bulletin have paid off. Members receive their PDFs of The Bulletin before printed copies, PDFs of The Bulletin contain high-quality, full-color photos and are easier to search and archive, and PDFs are suitable for home printing. So far over half of our members have elected to receive PDFs and the resulting savings in printing and mailing costs have been considerable.
A combination of financial progress, along with generous bequests, has allowed us to keep our all-print dues the same as in previous years. For digital dues, which still includes the print edition of Headlights, we have been able to further reduce membership rates from $50 to $40. This discount returns us to a dues rate that is the lowest it has been in years. To promote a vibrant future for the club, we have also implemented a new discounted rate for youth members, now up to 30 years old, that has already generated attention from railfans who have become members.
