Our December presentation was our last meeting at St. Johns University on Murray Street. Beginning with our January 2014 meeting, presentations will be held in the Vanderbilt Suite on the second floor of the Roosevelt Hotel at 45 East 45th Street and Madison Avenue, one block from Grand Central Terminal.

Gary Grahl (ERA #2823) invites you to join him at our last meeting at St. Johns as he presents another of his annual Super 8 movie nights. Those who have seen Gary’s movies in the past know this is not to be missed.
Our November show will be presented by Program Chairman Andrew Grahl. Andrew’s slideshow will include rail transit in London, Sheffield, Manchester and Blackpool, among other highlights. See you there!
Preceding our November show in the same auditorium, the 2013 Annual Membership Meeting of the Electric Railroaders Association, Inc. will start promptly at 7:00 PM. All ERA members are encouraged to attend. Andrew’s presentation will follow the Annual Membership Meeting.
Ray Berger will present our October slideshow. Ray’s program will consist of vintage views of commuter trains from Grand Central Terminal, thus mostly Harlem, Hudson and New Haven Line trains. Count this as part of the Metro-North 30th Anniversary celebration as we take a look at historical slides. There is no excuse not to be there!
We are pleased to announce a day trip that will include tours of the NJ Transit River Line Shop and the PATCO Lindenwold Shop. We will also ride several different rail lines: NJ Transit’s Northeast Corridor, River Line and Atlantic City Line; PATCO; and SEPTA’s Trenton Line. This may be our last trip of the year, so don’t miss it.
Harry Pinsker will present our September slideshow. Harry’s program will depict Toronto streetcars from the 1950s to the present, the col-sm-6-P&W Norristown Line from the 1960s to the present, and miscellaneous vintage New York City subway scenes.
The ERA is pleased to announce a construction tour on the Manhattan side of the Long Island Rail Road East Side Access project. This tour is limited to strictly 20 people and is already sold out.
Our August presentation will be given by Todd Glickman. Todd’s show will focus on the transit systems of Taiwan, China, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia.
Our July program will be a wonderful slidehow by Lew Hoy. Please join us for 100 Miles by Trolley, which will include views from West Chester on the PST, through 69th St. Terminal, to Easton on the LVT.
Spend the day with the NYRRE riding the LIRR’s longest branch to its bumper post in Montauk and back. We will visit the Montauk Point Lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in New York State, and have lunch at Gosman’s Dock Restaurant, Montauk’s favorite seafood restaurant.
The ERA is pleased to announce our 31st annual guided tour of Grand Central Terminal, and it looks like Dan Brucker will be leading it again. GCT is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, making this tour that much more meaningful. Limited to only 35 people, so order your tickets soon.
The father-son duo of Randy and Marc Glucksman culled pictures from their extensive archives and added new images from the present for a digital slideshow for your entertainment. This is a presentation that is not to be missed!
The 2013 ERA Convention will be held on Memorial Day weekend in Denver and Salt Lake City. The luxurious Magnolia Hotel will be our headquarters in Denver and the site of our 2013 Annual Banquet. We will spend three days in the Mile High City, then spend a day riding to Salt Lake City on the California Zephyr, one of the world’s most magnificent train journeys. Our home base for the following two days will be the AAA Four Diamond-rated Little America Hotel. This looks to be another exciting convention, and we hope to see you all there.
Join us for an unusual joint ERA/NYRRE trip to Poughkeepsie. While most of our trips involve photography either from trains or on trains, this trip has both.
Our May presentation will be a fantastic digital slideshow by Paul Gawkowski. Paul will cover many rail systems from China and the U.S. Those who have attended Paul’s presentations in the past know this one is not to be missed!
Our April program will be a slideshow by Jeff Erlitz of the ERA’s sixth International Tour in 2000. The ERA visited all four of Hungary’s tramway systems as well as both tramway operations in Slovakia. Come join us for another of Jeff’s fascinating retrospectives.
Our March program will be a digital presentation by Nick DiBari of his extensive three-and-a-half week tour of the UK in 2012, as well as scenes from a 2010 trip to London and southeast England. Please come and join us for an interesting look at electric railroads “across the pond.”
The ERA is pleased to announce that our visit to NYC Transit’s Coney Island Complex in Brooklyn has been rescheduled for Saturday, March 2. Thousands of subway cars are maintained and overhauled for service on all subway divisions at this huge complex. Representatives from NYC Transit will be our hosts to point out interesting features of the shop and its various subdivisions.
Our February meeting will be presented by Eric Oszustowicz. His slide program will cover diverse subject matter from Eastern Europe to Texas and beyond. Please join us for an interesting evening of diverse and unusual topics.
World traveler and renowned photographer Jack May (ERA #2275) will present a review of developments in each of 14 cities in Poland with operating streetcar systems. Please join us as we usher in 2013, and return to our usual meeting location.
