The N.Y. Division of the ERA visited two separate facilities of the Long Island Rail Road on Saturday, September 15, 2007: the relatively new Arch Street Shop in Long Island City, Queens, and the West Side Yard, just west of Penn Station in Manhattan.
The visit to and tour of Arch Street lasted approximately one hour. Our group then traveled by #7 train to Penn Station, where there was a break for lunch. After lunch, we then met up again to tour the Westside Yard at 2:00 PM at the east end gate at the corner of 10th Avenue and West 34th Street. The Westside Yard tour also took about an hour. Representatives from the LIRR were our hosts to point out interesting features of each of our stops.
