2008

One of the many fun items available at the SEPTA Transit Gift Store

Weekend in Philadelphia

Saturday & Sunday, May 3-4, 2008

Although attendance fell short of what we had hoped, a fabulous time was had by all in attendance. The tours of the Amtrak Wilmington facility and SEPTA’s Norristown Line shop were extraordinary, and the SEPTA suburban rail Overbrook shop visit was nice. The hotel was comfortable and convenient and the free time for individual or group exploring was appreciated…

The N.Y. Division of the ERA is pleased to announce a Spring weekend excursion to various electric rail facilities in the Philadelphia area on the weekend of May 3rd and 4th, 2008.

Saturday Itinerary

Our chartered bus will leave promptly at 8:00 AM from the public city bus stop for the M16 on 8th Avenue, just north of West 40th Street, across the street from the Port Authority Bus Terminal (Stop #1). There will be an additional pickup point in Metropark at the bus stop area in front of the New Jersey Transit/Amtrak Metropark Station (Stop #2). The pickup at Stop #2 will be at 8:40 AM. Parking is available in the garage at this station for $5/day.

We are planning our first stop at Amtrak’s Wilmington Shops in Wilmington, Del. Afterwards, we will make a lunch stop in downtown Philadelphia near the SEPTA Transit Gift Store at 1234 Market Street. The Transit Store is open until 3:00 PM. After lunch, we will check in at our hotel in Philadelphia.

Our hotel for Saturday evening will be the Microtel Inn & Suites near the Philadelphia Airport. SEPTA bus and rail service is available nearby so that you can access Philadelphia on your own or with a group. More detailed transit information will be provided during the trip.

Sunday Itinerary

On Sunday morning, we will visit SEPTA’s Overbrook Shops, its main suburban rail shop facility. We may also visit another SEPTA facility, although arrangements have not been finalized at press time. There will be sufficient time to explore various transit sites and lines on your own in Philadelphia on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons. For those preferring to be with a group, there will be a group itinerary for those days. A dinner stop at Old Country Buffet in Bensalem, Pa., is included in the ticket price (including gratuity). All other meals will be on your own at your own expense.

It is expected that the bus will return home on Sunday at approximately 10:00 PM.

Hotel arrangements are included in the price of the trip. The number of rooms we have reserved is limited, so we advise you to book this trip as early as you can. In any event, the registration form must be received by us on or before April 30, 2008.
