HBLR & Newark Light Rail Trip Plus Shop Tour

Thirty-four people attended. Jim Kennedy of Hudson-Bergen accompanied us from Hoboken to the new 8th Street Bayonne station, and provided an interesting and informative commentary. After lunch, we rode the Newark Light Rail line in its entirety and Angel Vazquez provided a terrific shop tour. We thank NYRRE for co-sponsoring both trips with us and look forward to future co-sponsored trips.

The N.Y. Division of the ERA is pleased to announce a trip involving New Jersey Transit’s Hudson-Bergen and Newark Light Rail Lines on Saturday, June 11, 2011. We will ride a portion of HBLR and focus on the new station at 8th Street in Bayonne. We will have lunch at the Newport Mall, after which we will take PATH to Newark-Penn Station in order to ride the Newark Light Rail Line (formerly the City Subway). Included will be a photo stop at Broad Street Station and a tour of the Newark Light Rail Line shop just outside of the Grove Street Station.

All attendees will meet at Hoboken Terminal no later than 9:45 am that morning. More specifically, you should be at the entrance to the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail platforms at the extreme southerly end of Hoboken Terminal, beyond Track 15. Follow signs to the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Line. Division member Sid Keyles will be there to greet you. In anticipation of the need for security clearance for all attendees, please make certain to have a photo ID in your possession.

It is expected that the tour of the Newark Light Rail shop will end at approximately 4:00 PM, after which attendees can make their way back to Newark Penn Station, the end point for this trip. We will try to arrange for optional photo stops at Davenport and Orange Street for those attendees so interested. The cost of your fares on HBLR, PATH to Newark, and Newark Light Rail is included in the trip price.
