Botanical Garden Holiday Trip

Saturday, December 8, 2012

It’s time again for the traditional NYRRE Holiday Trip, which is being co-sponsored in 2012 by the ERA and the New York Railroad Enthusiasts. This year we will visit the Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx. Laid out in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, the trains wind their way among exotic flowers and plants. Each of the many model buildings on the layout are made of natural materials like twigs and wooden branches, as are the bridges over which trains soar.

We will take Metro-North to the Botanical Garden stop on the Harlem Line, directly across the street from the pedestrian entrance to the Botanical Gardens. Our train leaves Grand Central Terminal at 9:25 am and arrives at Botanical Garden at 9:46 AM After our visit we will re-board the train at 12:44 PM and ride to Tuckahoe, New York, arriving at 1:00 PM for our group luncheon at Angelina’s Ristorante, the “finest Italian restaurant in Westchester.” Lunch will include a choice of a fish, poultry, pasta or vegetarian entrée. Included is a salad, soda and fruit platter dessert, and tea or coffee. Alcoholic drinks on your own. We will leave Tuckahoe at 3:21 PM and arrive back at GCT at 3:59 PM.
