Member Appreciation Tour: Join the ERA at NYC Transit’s East 180th Street Yard and Maintenance Shop

The ERA is pleased to announce our final regional trip of 2016, a free tour of the NYC Transit East 180th Street Yard and Maintenance Shop in The Bronx. This will be a guided visit and our first tour of the location since September 2009. Representatives from NYC Transit will be our hosts to point out all of the interesting features of the shop. You will see how the subway car fleet is kept in good repair from the wheels up.

The East 180th Street Yard is situated at 1145 East 180th Street in the Bronx, just east of the Bronx Zoo. The yard consists of eight storage tracks and an adjacent 12-track shop building with a connection to the nearby 19-track Unionport Yard, which lies to the northeast of East 180th Street Yard. The yard is the home of the Bombardier R142 for the 5. There is considerable fleet interchange with the 2. All acceptance testing for newly delivered IRT-type cars is performed here. A new shop building replacing the original 1918-vintage shop building opened in 1999. (Wikipedia)

All attendees will meet in The Bronx at the recently renovated East 180th Street station of the 2 and 5 lines at 11 AM on the northbound platform. It is expected that the visit and tour will last approximately 1.5 hours. Please wear sturdy shoes; open-toed shoes will not be allowed in this active work environment.

Due to NYC Transit security requirement deadlines, this flyer will unfortunately not be distributed by mail. The deadline for sending in your complete package is September 30th. We look forward to seeing you there!

Ticket Price: Free for all paid ERA members!

This tour is our first annual member-appreciation tour. All paid 2016 ERA members will be allowed to participate in this tour for free, if space allows it.

Order Deadline September 30

For further information, please contact Robert Colorafi.

We look forward to seeing you there.
