East 180th Street Shop Tour

Saturday, September 12, 2009

Approximately 25 attendees participated in a fantastic tour of the NYC Transit East 180th Street Yard and Maintenance Shop in The Bronx. Our hosts were extremely hospitable and we had several treats, most notably a chance to photograph and go into four Low-Vs in the shop. Several very nice handouts enhanced our visit, including an informative DVD. A great time was had by all.

The N.Y. Division of the ERA is pleased to announce a visit to the NYC Transit East 180th Street Yard and Maintenance Shop in The Bronx. This shop is where subway cars are maintained for service on the 5 line.

All attendees will meet in The Bronx at the East 180th Street station of the 2 and 5 lines. Please look for the flyer with the September mailing for the exact meeting spot (or e-mail [email protected] prior to September 11). You must be at that exact meeting spot no later than 10:30 AM that morning. There is limited bus service in the area and those driving will have to find on-street parking. In anticipation of the need for security clearance for all attendees, please make certain to have a photo ID in your possession.

It is expected that the visit and tour will last 1 to 1.5 hours. Representatives from NYC Transit will be our hosts to point out interesting features of the shop. You will see how subway cars are kept in good repair from the wheels up.

Following the shop tour, an optional trip of Bronx transit experiences will be offered that includes:

We will have a lunch stop during this optional trip; fares will be on your own.
