Our May meeting will be presented by Ron Yee. Join us for Ron’s overview of the entire 18-day ERA tour of southern Germany in May 2018. Ron’s slideshow will cover almost every tram, S-Bahn, and U-Bahn system in southern Germany.

Starting in Frankfurt before the ERA tour, Ron then joined up with the ERA group to cover Karlsruhe, Heidelberg, Mannheim, Stuttgart, Freiburg, Augsburg, Nurnberg, Ulm and Munich. Ron will also show pictures from the side trips to Basel, Strasbourg and Sarreguemines, plus Zugspitze Peak and Neuschwanstein Castle (the inspiration for the blue-topped castle that is the centerpiece of all Disney theme parks).

Ron will then present a quick review of the ERA’s 2018 Annual Convention in the San Francisco Bay Area, followed by a visit to Los Angeles.

Then it’s north of the border to see Montreal’s newest Azur-class Metro cars. Ron will also have an update on the conversion process of the former CN Electric commuter rail line from Central Station to Deux Montagnes into an automated rapid transit line known as REM (R├ęseau express m├ętropolitain). Then we’ll visit Toronto to see its new Flexity LRVs as they slowly replace the venerable 40-year-old CLRVs and ALRVs.

For the NYC-area transit fans, there will be an overview of the 2018 NYCT Parade of Trains and Amtrak operations into Grand Central during the summer of 2018.

In Florida, we’ll see pictures of Sunrail, which extended its commuter line 17 miles to Poinciana last summer, and Brightline (now Virgin Trains USA), which began serving downtown Miami.

If time permits, there may be a quick peek at the rail activities and scenes related to the 150th Anniversary of the Golden Spike ceremony in Utah which Ron will have just returned from to present this comprehensive show.
