Hudson Rail and Road Trip

Saturday, May 18, 2013

The trip was a success. Fifteen were in attendance and enjoyed numerous photo opportunities at station stops between Poughkeepsie and Hastings-on-Hudson, courtesy of a Leprechaun Lines mini-bus.

Join us for an unusual joint ERA/NYRRE trip to Poughkeepsie. While most of our trips involve photography either from trains or on trains, this trip has both.

We will ride a regularly scheduled Metro-North Hudson line train from Grand Central Terminal to Poughkeepsie. Upon arrival in Poughkeepsie our inclusive luncheon will be at Amici’s Restaurant, conveniently located on the Hudson waterfront and a short walk from the train station. Then after lunch we’ll board a chartered, 29-seat minibus and drive back to NYC along Route 9.

It is during our return trip that we’ll visit some (not enough time for all) of the Hudson Line train stations to photograph their scenic beauty. We might even catch some Metro-North and Amtrak trains passing through some of the stations. (The trip is not designed to chase trains, though. Each station visit will be short to maximize the number of stations visited.) Once back in New York, the minibus will discharge us at Harlem-125th Street Station, Grand Central Terminal and Penn Station.
